Sometimes as a community we spend too much time talking about what we should do without ever doing anything.
In this inspiring video from the US, kids in the community are driving real change.
The kids spent 6 months working on their idea to ban plastic water and soft drink bottles and educating the community as to why this was important. At a recent vote on the proposal the motion passed unopposed and their town has become the first in North America to ban the selling of plastic bottles under 34 ounces.
We should be encouraged by their example, and feel secure in the knowledge that we can work together as a community to find ways to reduce our environmental impact. Finding passionate champions and lots of follow-up education are keys to successful outcomes.
Perhaps this is something we could aim to do in our local community?
