One small change… toilet paper

We’ve posted about this before, but it’s worth bringing up again.

Toilet paper is not something we talk about much, but we should be, because it is something that will likely always be a popular item in the shopping trolley, and it is an easy switch to make – buy 100% recycled rolls.

It is true that some recycled toilet paper is not as soft as the more popular options, and not always as thick either, but there are plenty of reasons to make the switch to recycled which should outweigh your personal comfort:

  • Less chemicals being wiped on your skin;
  • Reusing a post-consumer resource that would otherwise be wasted; and
  • Keeping trees in the ground where they can provide multiple benefits to our environment like habitat, carbon capture and soil retention to name a few.

If we increase the number of people buying recycled, we may even create more of an industry in Australia for recycling our own paper waste!

Supporting our recycling industry so that it becomes more viable commercially is the way we can contribute to making our country more sustainable. You do have the power to vote with your money for the changes that you would like to see!

See this Zoos Victoria page for further info, or if you’re interested in the whole process of toilet paper making, check out this.

But in short, buy recycled!  It’s a quick and easy change you can make that will have a big impact on your carbon footprint.

Comfort or a better future? Which will you choose?
